I use to have permed hair because I wanted that silky smooth hair that white people had. I never thought my hair was beautiful, Society manipulated my brain, and because of society\u2019s beauty standards, I never felt the need to embrace my natural kinky hair because in a society that has certain standards for women: women have to be skinny, women have to have long silky hair, etc. These are unrealistic standards of beauty to hold women to.<\/p>\n

One huge step I have taken this year is to transition yes  I recently cut off my permed hair.For those of you out there who do not know what that means, permed hair is the type of hair that has been chemically relaxed using a relaxer cr\u00e8me to convert natural hair to smooth, silky hair.<\/p>\n

As women, we also value hair length more than anything. cutting my hair was hard for me, but it is one of the best things I have done because I have learned that natural hair is beautiful (and that Natural hair fits my face quite well lol).
First, I thought going natural wasn\u2019t for me — the commitment to maintaining my natural hair sounded like more than I could handle.  so I thought until my friend put my hair in Bantu knots. By that point, it was February and I hadn\u2019t permed in over 2 months. I was just getting my hair washed and blow dried at the salon. From the day I got the Bantu knots, I never wanted to perm my hair again,
For 4month, I wore protective style (loc extensions) By the time in august this month i went for a natural cut leaving my hair 100% chemical free,Now it is just a matter of learning my hair texture , and to be honest, it\u2019s probably the most low-maintenance style I\u2019ve ever had. All I need to do is wash and go and call it a day — unless I want to do a twist out. The more I embraced my natural hair, the easier it is to manage.<\/p>\n

Going natural is hard work, but it\u2019s so worth it.
I\u2019m talking from experience here,  Just note that if you\u2019ve straightened your hair, had a perm, or had relaxer in your hair your entire life, transitioning back to your natural roots is not going to be easy.<\/p>\n

I am growing my hair out, but while my hair is still short, I will embrace it and defy the stigma that women are supposed to have long hair.
To my African Women out there Do not let society tell you what is good hair, and what isn\u2019t; all hair is beautiful,it is all about being Comfortable with yourself  Embrace those natural hair you were born with!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
