Ohemaa Mercy is a Ghanaian gospel musician. a radio show host, a wife, and a mother. She had a calling into the gospel industry since 2004. She joined the Ghanaian music industry to encourage and bring more souls into the kingdom of God through her songs.
Born on 7th September 1977, in Wieja “Accra”. Ohemaa lived most of her early life in Koforidua. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Amoah, who came from Elmina and Abakrapa. She is the third born among five children. Her native name is Twum-Ampofo and she uses Ohemaa Mercy as the stage name. Ohemaa is derived from Ghanaian dialect that means ‘queen.’ Currently, she is 42 years old.
She attended her primary school and Junior high at St Peter’s Anglican, which is based in Koforidua, she joined Ghana Secondary School, where she obtained her SSCE Certificate and then proceeded to S.D.A teacher’s training college, where she obtained her Teacher’s Certificate, ‘Á.’
Ohemaa Mercy released her first album Adamfo Papa in 2004. The album was received with massive airplay, hence, bringing Ohemaa into the limelight. She was nominated for seven Ghana Music Awards in 2006 but did not win any. However, she won the Discovery of the Year Gospel Music Award in the same year. The following year she released her 2nd album Edin Jesus. She sold numerous copies after the release making it the most purchased album of the year. She was nominated among the artist of the year category alongside other famous artists. She managed to win the Gospel Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year. Moreover, in the same year, she was awarded the National Honors Award from the President of Ghana at the time, John Kufuor.
